The action you take today will secure your tomorrow and have its repercussions. The pandemic will frizzle out and get over someday shortly, but the survivors remain .
And remember we aim now at ‘safeguarding lives’ and ‘safeguarding livelihood’.
To the question , can small and medium enteprises survive the onslaught of COVID-19 ? The answer is in the affirmative.( Yes)
Here’s how-
I’m used to writing long editorials and articles. But this time I choose to keep it short.
At this hour of crises where the pandemic has slapped us hard, and, where the business world is on the way to a grinding halt , it’s time to lubricate the wheels of business before it is too late.
It is time now to stop whining and strategize to overcome.
Here’s how : The 10 Moves–
1. Follow Government initiatives and resolutions passed from time to time during the season.
2. Strategize your business contingency plan with a positive approach. Learn to connect dots and dashes.
3. Learn to trust your employees , remember you hired them for a purpose and with a criterion in mind. Unless you have additional staff do not lay off. Speak to your employees and organize a pay structure for the next few months.
4. Plan the next move with your team and make a blueprint for the next 6 months. ( Today your surviving , tomorrow you will continue to survive). Your finances may need an overhaul.
5. ‘DO NOT GIVE UP’- yes even with shutters down , it is wise to work from home and follow the programs set forth by the government in the best interest of the society at large. Stay connected with your staff as you would across the cabins. ( Social Distancing – YES , Social Networking technologically – No harm). Establish a ‘Introspective Remote Work Policy.’
6. Apply for Government exemptions if made applicable to you.( Here there is no hare and tortoise game, only stipulations to be followed)
7. Service /Product model needs a makeover. Rise up with informed projections.
8. If your business is already impacted, then all I can say is STRATEGIZE to build back.
9. Stop taking free advice from every Tom , Dick , Harry & Suzy. Contact your financial consultant and if needed your Legal Adviser and put yourself back on track.
10. Be positive and take all safety precautions.
On an encouraging note , I would like to wind up with the words of Jack Welch , where he is said to have remarked – “An organization’s ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage.”
The action you take today will secure your tomorrow and have its repercussions. The pandemic will frizzle out and get over someday shortly, but the survivors remain .
And remember we aim now at safeguarding lives and livelihood.
